What is SIGraDI?

The Ibero-American Digital Graphic Society (www.sigradi.org) is a non-profit association that brings together architects, urban planners, designers and artists linked to new digital media and is the counterpart of similar organizations in Europe (ECAADE) North America (ACADIA), Asia / Oceania (CAADRIA) and Western Asia and North Africa (ASCAAD). It holds an Annual Congress in which the latest applications and possibilities of graphic technologies are discussed, with the participation of relevant international specialists, in the area of ​​Computer Aided Design (CAD) in Architecture and Design. SIGraDi brings together researchers interested in various sub-areas such as Design Methodologies, Digital Fabrication, Parametric Modeling, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Automation, Interactive Design, among others.

SIGraDI was born in 1997, with the first Congress held in the city of Buenos Aires and since that time has organized an annual congress in different institutions and countries throughout Latin America. The initial objective of SIGraDI is to contribute to the development of academic debate on Information and Communication Technologies, graphic applications, digital media and promote the production and advancement of scientific knowledge in general, promoting changes related to research, Technological transformation and education. SIGraDI observes and promotes with intense effort the debate and the investigation in this stage of strong technological transformation.

In 2017

The XXI International Congress of the Ibero-American Society of Digital Graphics will be held on 22 | 23 | November 24, 2017 in the city of Concepción, Chile. It is organized by the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Geography of the University of Concepcion.

The theme “Resilience Design” reveals the researchers’ concern about the issues related to our reality of climate change and natural disasters, associated with the states of vulnerability and risk, with their wide effects on society and how to inhabit the territory. These themes are fundamental and of great importance in the discipline and in the field of design and architecture, as they are also relevant for the collaborative work, with emerging areas of the arts and human sciences. Thinking about Resilience Design is to place ourselves on new scenarios of reflection and action, where supported by transdisciplinary thinking and collaborative design, allow us a new approach to our territories and their demands, more contextualized and adjusted to their current and future requirements; Starting point to establish the key elements that drive a change in our cities and society. Working in Resilience Design allows to support research, productive processes and the emergence of new technologies in interdisciplinary contexts, and whose greatest value is to influence the processes of teaching and professional practice, of the different areas related to the human habitation, who will have the work To act and integrate into these new scenarios of change and constant adjustment.

The congress aims to generate a synthesis of research and collective intelligence with a common ground for the academic communities of the countries of Latin America and the world, in a space for presentations and discussions on works on this topic applied to various disciplines. We frame this new meeting in the fields of design and the project in all its scales and the art in its multiple expressions, which anticipates a nourished and valuable exchange that will promote the self-evaluation and reformulation of educational paradigms.
